Green Hydrogen Turns On!

I last posted regarding inauguration activity at the end of January at which time Plug Power had just turned on its Georgia liquid hydrogen plant and was operating at ~1/3rd capacity (40MW - now 100%). Most notably, while activity remains heavily concentrated in Europe, plant sizes have trended up from 1-5MW to 10-25MW and higher. Next year and excluding China, at least 10 projects with capacity of 100MW or larger are scheduled to come online.

2/8 Florida Power & Light (Nextera) completed the Cavendish NextGen Hydrogen Hub in Okeechobee County, Florida. Hydrogen produced using 25MW of Cummins electrolyzers will be blended (5%) with natural gas for a local power plant.

3/21 Infinium announces its green hydrogen-based eFuels facility in Texas is fully operational (MW not disclosed)

4/8 Wiener Stadtwerke Group began operations of a 3MW electrolyzer in Vienna which will produce 1,300 kg of hydrogen / day primarily for deployment into the transportation sector.

4/26 Axpo and electric utility Rhiienergie launched a 2.5MW hydro-powered electrolyzer in Switzerland’s Graubünden canton, primarily for deployment into the transportation sector.

6/10 Yara inaugurated a 24MW green hydrogen plant constructed by Linde using ITM electrolyzers. Hydrogen will be used to produce 80,000 tons of green fertilizer/year in Porsgrunn, Norway.

7/10 Tecnimont and NEXTCHEM inaugurate a 10MW PEM green hydrogen plant for Indian gas utility GAIL in Vijaipur, Madhya Pradesh, India. Hydrogen will initially be used within the existing gas power plant at the same location.

8/12 RWE commissioned a 10MW Sunfire Alkaline Electrolyzer and 4MW ITM Power Electrolyzer at its Emsland power plant site – initially hydrogen will be blended with gas as fuel for the plant.

8/16 Fortescue and Fabrum commission 1.4MW liquid hydrogen production plant at Christmas Creek in Western Australia with storage capacity of 600kg. Hydrogen will be used for prototype mining and other heavy-duty vehicles.

8/27 Topsoe, Skovgaard Energy, and Vestas inaugurated a green ammonia plant in Ramme, Northwest Jutland, Denmark. The 10MW electrolyzer will produce 5,000 tons of green ammonia annually.

8/27 Air Liquide inaugurated a 20MW green hydrogen plant in Oberhausen, Germany using electrolyzers produced by an Air Liquide/Siemens Energy JV. 2,900 tons of hydrogen per year will be distributed to industrial customers through Air Liquide’s existing hydrogen pipeline network.

9/5 Hungarian petrochemical producer MOL commenced production at a 10-MW green hydrogen plant employing Plug Power electrolyzers for use in its Danube Refinery.
